painting a nude

so i started off by drawing roughly using the charcoal but i stopped and switched to the brush as i felt somewhat confined by the dark lines of the charcoal

i finished the rest of the drawing by using turpentine and burnt sienna

i began to fill up the background to get rid of the white of the canvas

adding colours gradually..

here, i found myself stunted and worried as i didn't know what to do because of my lack of knowledge of painting... so i went back to charcoal

the charcoal saved me and got me hopes up^_^

this was a great learning experience and i hope to get better and better..

copy of- the aurora by bouguereau

i tried my best to copy from looking at bouguereau's drawing. i did a few more drawings of a cupid, a nude male and an another woman but i was not satisfied with them. i need to practice more.. as bouguereau said "draw what you see, and be precise".

sunflower 50x50

well i just wanted to do a sunflower painting ever since i'd seen the van gogh sunflowers. i'm not very good at drawing/painting flowers. i find them a little intricate.
i got some charcoal sticks, they're somewhat brittle but usable.

alleyway at night

i had never done a city scene before and never really thought about doing them.. but looking at paintings by august macke got me interested

i started the painting using only turpentine and made a rough sketch like under-painting using grey and crimson lake.

next i thought about adding colours. when i applied that lemon yellow i thought i would go with it and maybe some red to give it a fauve look. but i dropped this idea as i was not confident enough to carry out this approach.

so the next thing i did was using oil now i made solid/final shapes so i could paint it over later.

and the completed painting alleyway at night, oil on board.

watercolour + colour pencils

my cousin sandip gave me this idea that i could draw with pastel over watercolour. i'd seen some of his pastel drawings which looked really good. so i tried it with my old colour pencils.

learning portraiture

i made an attempt at doing a portrait of heramb. when i do a portrait, i seem to get the drawing and the under-painting pretty close to the subject but i don't do any good from thereon. i guess it will take me a few more canvases to figure out how to approach and do portraits right. the canvas was 20 x 24'' and it was pretty big for me and even though i was a little intimidated at first the experience of working on a bigger canvas was just amazing^_^
